On 17 October 2017, August Schmiedeskamp Jnr – CEO of “Ball for All” – wrote “I want more friends”….

Elmarie’s first reaction was “Let’s bring to the stage a play, with you and all your friends”, but corrected herself immediately with “Let’s organise a dance for you and all your friends”…..

August immediately responded with “Let’s call it “Ball for All”. “

The first design image that was presented to August – as – in Elmarie’s mind – “Ball for All” – a dance for August and about 20 of his friends – a fun Disco – one Saturday evening.

August has very definite ideas in life, and very high standards. He did not want to hurt anyone’s feelings – started by writing – he likes the design of the logo, the dancealong slogan and the little wheelchair image

but…… the background was not to his liking. He wrote “More formal please?” Little did we know – it was not only the background August referred to….

Second attempt at the background – we liked the idea of something like this, however – the dresses seemed to lack some colour

Third and final attempt at the background image for the “Ball for All” 2018 web site –

To the question “Would you like to change anything, August?” – August wrote “Hell no!”

The hunt for a suitable venue commenced – a mammoth task. Third attempt lucky – and the decision was made – “Voortrekker” Hall, Wierda Park it will be.

The Guests of Hounour were invited – and for the first time in our team’s history of organizing anything -áll the guests of honour immediately accepted the invitation.

Diva Liesl Marx-Davel  immediately agreed to co-ordinate the performers, Shaun Wilkinson kindly agreed to be the MC and Steve Slaughter from Qué Séra Music & Dance offered his and his team’s services for the lighting and sound.

David Lombaard  owner of De La Vida Dance Studio and Tania van Twisk  were invited to do a ballroom dance at the event – and they were amazing! They practised for hours on end, and the end result was world class.

It became clear, that this was going to be the event of a life time.

August wrote – All he wants, is for all wheelchair users and amputees, their partners, relatives and friends, to enjoy a classy, relaxed, enjoyable evening, where the guests feel at home, and know – the evening and dance floor are totally theirs.

The following volunteers rolled up their sleeves, and assisted greatly – ensuring the amazing success of “Ball for All” 2018. Mega thanks once again, to each and everyone of you – without you we could never have pulled off the beautiful “Ball for All” 2018.
